Pinterest Try Thursday

It Easter week, so I just had to try something from my Easter Pinterest Board for today.
I have so many fun Easter crafts and food pinned, but decided to actually try this one to use on our tables this year for Easter Dinner. Last year I wasn't able to make the napkin folding trick I learned on Pinterest work, so thought I would try another one this year.

My oldest granddaughter, Madi, helped me make the 27 we needed for Easter Sunday dinner.
She actually did most of them. She figured out the fold before I even got started.
Loved having her help me.
If you remember, last year, I got out my Vintage Linen table clothes and napkins and washed and ironed for days.  This year with possible rain, I'm doing plastic tablecloths, dishes, flatware, glasses and paper napkins.
(In the shape of bunnies, of course)

We took these two home to Tehachapi, tonight. They were here 3 days, and I already miss them like crazy.
We played Uno outside, BBQ'd, and went miniature golfing. Mr. SS and Kyle went golfing today and Madi and I went and had our nails done.
These two are the sweetest 18 and 16 year old. I know they are mine and I love them, but really...can teenagers be so great.

Well, now the work begins. Thank goodness the flower beds are done. Now the cleaning, cooking and setting up begin. I can't wait.

We won't forget the reason for our Easter Celebration.
Thank you,  Jesus for dying on the cross and rising again for us on this special day, Easter Sunday.

Wishing all of you a Blessed Easter and a wonderful celebration with family and friends.

Happy Easter

Pinterest Try Thursday

I wasn't going to share this, but had second thougthts.  So far, everything I have tried from Pinterest has worked out pretty good. This one...not so good. No, it was good, but could have been better.
So...I decided to share and tell you what I would do to make it better.

I didn't post all the pictures, but if you go to the link, it will tell you to put chicken breasts in the bottom of crockpot, add a box of stove top stuffing mix dry and add chicken soup, sour cream and a little water on top.
Well, the chicken and stuffing was way too dry. Mr. SS really liked the flavor and idea because he loves stuffing. It seems the mixture on the top stayed on top and never allowed the rest to get the moisture.
I'm going to try it again and put more water or maybe milk into the top mixture so it will filter down and moisten the chicken and stuffing.
So, there you have it. Just being real here. Not everything you find on Pinterest works...the first time anyway.

Okay, the next try was a success.  I pinned this last Easter and planned to do it in wool for this year, but you know how that goes. It was already too late to get it done for this year and I liked the design so I decided to  make a rug mug using the basic ideas.
                          holiday-crafts-and-creations.com

Here's my quickie version using machine applique and my embroidery machine. (Which is really behaving itself these days)
However, I just couldn't resist doing these sweet little flowers. I didn't have wool, but used felt.
I had so much fun doing this, that I am more than convinced I want to do the wool for next year. Maybe I should start now.  I love hand work and think the wool applique will be perfect for me.

I have to tell you, I panicked last night. My computer seemed to crash. I  have been needing to get it to the doctor and procrastinated...imagine that.
Anyway, this morning when I turned it on...just hoping, I guess, it said Windows had to do an update and would restart.
Whew!!! I guess that was what was going on. But I'm taking no chances. Off to the S.W.A.T. Team.
Don't know what that means, but they take good care of our computers.

Keep on trying Pinterest and I will too. Sometimes, it's not such a good thing, but there is so much to try.
Come back and tell me about it...even if it doesn't work and I'll post a link.

I attended Bernina Club at my favorite quilt shop this morning. Suzanne had lots of goodies for us and a fantastic "make and take" Check out her blog here to see some ideas she tried from Pinterest.

P. S. I almost hit the publish button and noticed that I had written "Life is Goo".  Had to laugh as I was fixing it. You know, sometimes "Life is Goo" but one thing you can always count on.

Pinterest Try Thursday

Something I saw on Pinterest a couple of weeks ago. It has changed the way I make cookies. And believe me when I say, my family is happy about that change, because now I make more cookies.
Of course I can't find it now on my boards to give credit where credit is due, but will show you this little trick anyway.
Since I live in a RV small cottage, I have a small RV small cottage oven. I have to have a small cookie sheet and can only make 12 cookies at a time. I usually get 4 doz. cookies from a batch, so it takes me a long time to make cookies.

I found a mini muffin pan one day at one of my favorite places...Home Goods.
Even though I recently made Peanut Blossoms with my pan, I just hadn't thought about doing all my cookies that way until I read where a pinner said that if you do them this way you will never go back to flat cookies.

I can get them all done in two batches of 24 this way.
Besides the mini muffin pan you will need one more thing. This makes the whole thing mess free and fast.
Mine is the medium scoop from Pampered Chef.
One level scoop and I turn it over so the curved side goes into the pan. They just fit better that way.
I just use my same cookie recipes and all have turned out crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
They keep fresh longer and stay together better thrown in a bag. I also can stack them on a cake plate.
You can't see the muffin shape on the plate, but when I served them to Mr. SS the first time, he asked if I could make them like this all the time. Even though they were filled with chocolate chips he still wanted to know where the chocolate kiss was. That's my Mr. SS who could be called Mr. Sweetooth.

I had planned to have my Easter Mug Rug ready to show you because I got the inspiration for that from Pinterest too, but I still need to do some handwork and embellishment, so next week I'll have it ready and displayed in an Easter vignette.

What have you tried from Pinterest? If you post about it, come back and tell me so I can link up to your try.
So many ideas...so little time.

A Little of This and That

As a follow up to "It's Her Birthday", I wanted to show you the finished bed put together in
Brook and Emmy's room.
Her Daddy and Papaw worked hard to get it done on time.
Emmy's bed is on the bottom.
Brook's birthday in next month, so it only seemed right for her to get a new bed too.
A really cute way to do bunks and a little playhouse underneath too.
How does Princess Brooke get up on her bunk, you might ask.
Well with a royal staircase, complete with carpet and a miniature hand rail, of course.
And Mommy Olivia's favorite part...3 big storage drawers...one under each royal step.

 The "prom" dress is finished.
I wish it looked as cute on the hanger as it did on the sweet girl who will wear it.
This "prom" takes place in Texas and Mom promised to send me a picture.
She tried it on yesterday so I could measure for the hem...tea length...but I didn't think to get a picture.
You can't tell here, but it is a sheer over a taffeta sweetheart strapless bodice.
The skirt is a sheer over taffeta. It is really full (doesn't look like it here). I think it ended up about 120 inches around before I gathered it.
She will were a petticoat to make it stand out some too.
Oh my! Terrible color, but a big taffeta bow is in the back with long streamers.
I am so happy to have it done, and the smile from the girl who will wear it and tears in her Mom's eyes made it worth the work. I confirmed what I already knew. I can make anything from a pattern, but changing it's style or fit is not easy for me.

I saved the best for last!!
Yesterday, Mr. SS brought this box in and plopped it on my cutting table.
Oh, I knew what it was.
Remember I told you I won 2 giveaways a couple of weeks ago.
After looking at the  return address, I ripped it open.
Even the cute tissue paper just said "Pam Kitty" to me.
Yep!! It is the sweet Valentines giveaway I won from Pam at Pam Kitty Morning and
Holly at Holly Holderman.
It only got cuter
and cuter. Nine fat quarters of Pam Kitty Love, big heart buttons, ric-rac, the cutest cherry suckers, and conversation hearts and little white milenary flowers tucked under the ric-rac.
And that lunch pail...well, just an amazing giveaway. Thank you Pam and Holly.
My pictures aren't very good, but you can go here and see it better.

I've got a couple of great Pinterest Tries for Thursday, so come back then.

It's Her Birthday

Emmy Lou turned 3 today.  We jokingly say 3 going on 13. She says and does things that no three year old should be able to say and do. I guess when you are the youngest of 6, you have to grow up fast to keep up.

She loves to pose. Can you tell.
Sitting on her new big girl bed that her Papaw and Daddy made. You can't see the bed here, it is still in the living room, but I'll show you after it gets set up in her room. She shares a room with sister Brooke and the bed is part of a really cute pair. The other one is in the shop being painted tonight.
She got a swimming suit and goggles from her other Grandma. I could not resist showing you this picture. I laughed until I cried. She loves these and would not take them off. I was laughing so hard, I had tears. She looked at me seriously (if you can be serious looking through those glasses) and said. "Stop laughing at me".
Eating her favorite Pscetti dinner.
She is sitting in her Daddy's high chair.  It is a Jenny Lind and was maple and  matched his crib and cradle.(that was the "thing" in the 70's.) I painted it white and all the grandkids used it at my house. When we moved into our RV small cottage, Emmy inherited it.

I have been working the last week on a sort of "prom dress" for the daughter of a family friend.
It has really given me fits, or in Mr. SS's words  it's "Eating my lunch". Whatever...I'm not going to give in to it.
So today, I took the day off and had some fun.
All my grandkids have a Minkee pillowcase with their name on it. Somehow, I had never made Emmy one,'
So...this is hers with her nick name on it.

I know...I said the Valentine bib was her last one, but it's her birthday and I needed a break from the "prom dress"  I've mentioned before that whipping up a bib (or pillowcase) is always rewarding when I've been working on something that isn't showing much progress.
I was tempted to put Happy Birthday or her name on it, but I thought that might be pushing my luck with my machine, which has been humming along since it's last checkup.

I know it was supposed to be Pinterest Try Thursday, but with the "prom dress" and Emmy's
Birthday being today, I just didn't get a post done.
I promise a couple of tries next week.
I already have a couple of things in mind. One is my Mug Rug for March, which will have to have a bunny because I don't usually do anything for St. Patrick's Day and Easter is the last day of March.

I can't believe it is almost Easter already. We had a couple of nice spring days.  I dug a couple of short sleeve shirts out of storage. (When you live in a RV small cottage, you have to pack away each seasons clothing.) I washed windows and then of course it rained.
Today I needed a sweater again.
Not complaining though. Hot weather will be here all too soon.

Happy Birthday to my youngest grandchiled.
Emmy Lou
You keep a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
