Bye Bye Birdie

For a long time, I have wanted to share my bird collection on Cindy's Show and Tell Friday @ Romantic Homes.
I quickly snapped these pictures and a couple are blurry, but you know my pathetic camera story by now, so hope you enjoy my little "Tweets" anyway.

Love this little happy little guy because of the shading on him.

These were first in my collection.  You see these often in antique stores.

You've seen her before. Found her in a trift store and cleaned her up with toothpaste.

This one is on a tall pedestal and sits way up high keeping an eye on things.

These two black ones sit in my a little niche in my black and red entry.

You've seen these silver ones on my entry table before with my little silver display.

  One of my red ones.

I split this pair up, one on either side of the TV.

Love these chubby yellow iron ones. Found them at Homegoods, when I first discovered that wonderful place to shop.

My DIL gave me these two on pedestals to add to my collection.

I've also shown these before when I did the cloche party.
They are in my dining room.

Oh my! Do these have story!  My friends gave me these beautiful alabaster birds, but they weren't my first pair like this.
I buy a lot of milk glass and during one shopping trip, I bought alabaster birds along with a whole bunch of milk glass pieces. I always come home from a thrifting trip and put my milk glass in the dishwasher. It really cleans up shiny and pretty.
I guess I also put the birds in with a load of milk glass. It was several days later that I discovered I couldn't find my alabaster birds. I had long since put away or displayed the milk glass.
I remembered that they were in the dishwasher, but I had reloaded it with dirty dishes, so while looking for the birds,  I noticed gritty sandy stuff in the bottom of my dishwasher.
Moral of this story...don't put alabaster in the dishwasher...it dissolves.
Years later, some of my friends found these and gave them to  me along with a warning not to wash them in the dishwasher.
Believe me, they have never let me forget what happened to my first pair.

Again, be sure to go over to Romantic Homes and see what others are sharing today.

More to come about the "Bye Bye Birdie" title to this post.
It's a good thing.

What is it about birds - I love them too! I especially like your chubby birds. And the dishwasher story is a "hoot". xo

Beautiful birds and what a funny story. Did they totally disappear in the dishwasher? Have a blessed weekend, Patty

Oh yes, we still get a laugh about your dissolving birdies. Your collection of birds is so fun. You have some unique birds and they are decorating items we can use year around. I didn't know I had a collection until one of my grandsons started counting the birds in my house. Have a great day.

Heard a rumor that Homegoods is coming to Bakersfield....in the spot that formerly was Longs Drugstore at the corner of Stockdale Hwy. and California.

Thanks for your comment. I too love birdies. I have a two year old granddaughter that has to get one down and play with it every time she is here.
I give her the resin one. Love all of your collection.
