Yesterday, the sun was shining for the first time in a while and I just felt like getting outside. I thought maybe I would take a before picture of our new home from the outside. We are at the very back of our youngest son's property. It is quite a ways from his house and as I am looking around, I am planning a cute little flower garden and dreaming of the patio and patio cover Mr. SS has promised me with a place to hang my wicker swing so I can sit and read or watch the grandkids play.
This is our fifth wheel cottage.
From the slide out (kitchen) back is where my sewing studio/office/laundry room is.
Across from here on the other side of the property is the chicken coop.
They raise chickens and produce enough eggs for the eight of them, for us and some to sell. The oldest two girls will be showing some of their chickens at the fair next year through 4-H. They also will show their rabbits. When our boys were young we lived on 20 acres in the mountains and raised chickens and other animals. I guess some of that wore off on at least one of our boys.
(Someday, I will tell you of the mountain living experience.)

Anyway here is the coop. Most of the time, they wander in the yard, but they have been flying over the fence into the neighboors yard where a dog thinks they are dinner, so they are "cooped up" for now.
Here's sweet Jewel.
Not the dog that eats the chickens. She's a sweetheart and comes running every time we open the door.
One more before picture to show you for now.
This is a border that goes around the wall inside our new home. I'm not crazy about having a border, but since I can't get this off I will be going shopping tomorrw afternoon to find something to cover it with.
We are locked into Black and Tan as you will see when I show you some of the other areas in our new home, but I'm hoping to find something that will be the beginning of turning this cozy cabin into a
cozy cottage.
I'm planning on adding lots of white. I think that will help, don't you?
Back to my sewing...I've been sewing quite a bit this week and will show some of that next time.
Oh! Before I go I wanted to tell you about a giveaway over at a sweet friends blog.

Thank you for the tour of your grounds. Now I can image you sitting there in the back whipping up our fabulous store models. CHICKENS? I love chickens. You didn't tell me there would be chickens. I could (and have) watch chickens all day. Love the way they scratch and peak and make those little chicken sounds and if you're lucky, will leave you a prezzie. Labs are the most loveable dogs and very protective of their family. Live is what you make it. You've made yours happy and confortable.
Well should have proof read that post. Chickens don't peak because they don't have the ability to squint. Chickens peck. PECK! And you live a good life so make it good. K? Over and out. Sheez...
This is all sounding pretty good to me. Snug quarters, dogs, and chickens. Nice!
What a wonderful new life you are creating. I can envision the garden and the swing and lucky you to be able to watch your grandchildren and have them come by and visit whenever...what a blessing. I love cottage blue or robins egg blue with tan and white. Yes lots of lovely cottage white. Can't wait to see more and to see what your sewing. My baby quilts are coming along pretty quickly. Hope to share them soon. Blessings friend!
How wonderful, you are settleing in so nicely. I think your home is delightful and the Grandkids all seem so happy to have you close by. I'm with you all I really need is the ones I love around me, and a place to sew...
I can't wait to see your swing hubby is going to set up for you..it sounds so relaxing.
and yes I also agree "Home is Where the Heart is".
Big hugs, Elizabeth
I'm so glad you're "back in the groove!" I know you will make your new home just as comfy and darling as your previous ones. And yes, you can't go wrong with white. I'm looking forward to seeing your creative talent at work! Just think, you are living in the city and the country at the same time -- love the dog (and the chicks, too, except in the early morn!) Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Hugs,
Sally
(PS. I'm a "Bachelor" fan, too! :)
Thanks so much for posting about my giveaway Beverly. I'm sorry I didn't get around to thank you sooner. We're back in school and that cuts back on my blog visiting time :-)
I'd love to hear your stories of living on 20 acres. Sounds fun. Was that in Tehachapi?
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Marcia
