A Blank Canvas

I finally got all Christmas decorations packed away and put up in the garage. Whew, it feels good.  These two pictures show what every flat surface in my entry, livingroom, dining room and kitchen look like right now....bare.
That is not a bad thing, I am kinda liking it. Don't know how long it will last, but I'm just going to enjoy the emptiness for a few days. I usually put things back in pretty much the way they were.  This time, I am going to try a little remix and move things a bit, so I have made a commitment to do that without buying anything new.  I also hope to pare down a bit.   I always start out with less and then seem to end up filling every little spot.  It will be a challenge, but with determination I think when I am done with  the "emptiness",  it will be fun.
What about you, do you put things back like they were before you decorated for a holiday, or do you try new things?

Usually I do, strictly due to my laziness! LOL.

Seems like thing always wind up in the same place, but like you I have been trying really hard to think out of the box and change things. I really like most of the new looks and others still need tweaking. Can't wait to see what all you do. Hugs, Marty

First of all, you're entertainment center and mantel are gorgeous! I know who made them and he is so talented!

I sometimes try and mix things up but unless I have something new to add to the mix it's hard to come up with a more pleasing arrangement.
than the one I had.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. I'm working on my house this week too.

Hi Beverly! I find as I'm getting older that I'm putting back less, focusing more on things I really love as opposed to just filling space. I'd like to get into the habit of buying more fresh flowers for rooms, it makes them feel so alive. With beautiful flowers at the grocery for under $10, it's affordable every now and then.

Hi Beverly! Thanks for your visit and comment! So nice to meet you...and how wonderful you've recently been to Kentucky. I took one look at these photos and read through several of your posts and knew I wanted to come back! What a great blog! Love your mantel and built-ins...they are gorgeous! We just bought some new furniture (our gift to one another for our 25th anniversary), so everything has been a blank canvas this year! Slowly but surely I'm getting things the way I want them, and very much enjoying that. Like Grace above, I love the beauty fresh flowers bring to any room. Blessings to you! = )

Wow, I'm loving your wall unit, so many places to put things! I've go NO storage in my livingroom.

I really enjoyed your posts about Mariellen. Her rooms are beautiful and her shop looks like a place I could stay for days. I'd love to get my hands on some rose prints like the ones she put over her couch. I've had my eye out for some but no luck yet. I'll have to spend some time checking out her website.
Hugs,
Dawn

I love your entertainment center. The white against that yellow is really beautiful. Your fireplace is lovely too. That is a great idea to just sit back with the blank canvas, waiting to be inspired. I'm sure it will turn out beautiful! I should probably do that a little more in my life. Good things are bound to happen when we slow down a little. Thanks for stopping by my blog! My finished quilt is posted now! :)

You have great areas for display. I am always changing and one new piece can change not only one area but several rooms in my house. I always seem to make a mess before getting my vignettes the way I want them. I would say I would help you but you know I would be filling every corner. I know your shelves will look beautiful when you finish. Also, Mari Ellen's room looks great.

Hi Beverly,
First I want to thank you for always stopping by and leaving such sweet comments...I really appreciate it! And I can't believe I wasn't a follower of yours...I thought I was and I apologize for not following sooner.
I love your idea of waiting to see what inspires you before you decorate. A blank canvas is a good thing sometimes. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Hi Beverly,
It's always kind of sad taking things down and putting them away after the holidays isn't it?
I'd love to have twinkle lights up year round, and have been know to have them on my mantle...just because. I like to move things around from time to time. It's hard not to buy new treats though, especially if you like to go to antique stores, flea markets and garage sales as much as I do. Sometimes I think "do I really need any more stuff?" and the answer is NO! So sometimes, it's just good to swtich things around to freshen up things a bit!
